01 · Account purpose and accessOpen lesson

A transaction account supports payments and withdrawals; a savings account is commonly used for holding money for future needs. Products vary in restrictions, features and fees. Match the account’s purpose with your expected use, including how quickly you may need access. A familiar brand name does not answer every question about the specific product.
A learner keeps bill money accessible and compares separate savings options for a future goal.

02 · Fees, minimums and protectionsOpen lessonLocked — complete previous lessons

Read monthly fees, balance conditions, transaction charges and withdrawal limits. Check what institution holds the funds and whether the specific deposit is covered by applicable protection. Do not assume that every financial app or investment has the same protection as an eligible bank deposit. Use official FDIC or NCUA information for relevant U.S. accounts.
A no-fee offer requires a minimum balance that the learner may not maintain.

03 · Interest and compound growthOpen lessonLocked — complete previous lessons

Interest may be added to the balance and earn later interest, creating compounding. APY and the calculation period help compare deposit yields, but rates can change. Contributions, fees and taxes may affect the result. A learning model with a fixed rate is not a promise about future account performance.
With annual compounding, $1,000 at a hypothetical 5% becomes $1,050 after one year before fees and taxes.

04 · Secure routines and reviewOpen lessonLocked — complete previous lessons

Use strong authentication, verify messages independently and review statements for unfamiliar activity. Avoid sending account details through unsolicited links. Keep records of transfers and know how to contact the institution through an established channel. Review fees and access periodically because your needs and product terms can change.
